THE SHADOW

CONTENTS:

     One of the best remembered programs from the "golden age of radio."  The character was first heard only as a narrator beginning on The Detective Story Hour from 07/31/30 to 07/23/31.  This creation continued to be heard for the next several years in The Blue Coal Radio Revue, and The Love Story Hour. Finally, the series became known as The Shadow when heard from 01/05/32 to 02/02/32.  Starting in the fall of 1932, the character became a crime fighter and not just a narrator.  Beginning with the 09/26/37 to 03/20/38 Mutual run, Orson Welles stepped into the lead role and the series really took off in popularity.  Four additional actors would take over the role until the last live broadcast on 12/26/54.
